How Far Ahead Can You Book a Driving Test?
You can book a test up to 24 weeks in the future, though you may have to wait several months until there’s a slot available particularly if you want to take your test at a certain test centre. If the waiting time is too long and you want to take your test as soon as possible, is there a faster way?
How to Get a Driving Test as Soon as Possible
The DVSA currently advises that “there is no waiting list or cancellation list”. So, if you use their official booking channel, you should have little trouble finding a test in the near future.
However, in recent years due to the covid backlog, there have been long waits for tests, so many people have been using driving test cancellation apps. In order to use these apps you need to have a test booked first through the DVSA. You can then use the app to keep a look out for an earlier test date or a test in a different location.
Alternatively, you could contact your local test centre directly, and ask them for the earliest available test. If they don’t have anything that suits you, you could try calling a few other test centres in other nearby areas. Though bear in mind that taking your test anywhere other than your nearest test centre could mean you’ll have to drive some unfamiliar routes during your test.

As soon as you’ve passed your test, you’ll be legally allowed to drive on UK roads. Congratulations! But remember, as a newly qualified driver, before you drive anywhere you will need to contact your insurance company to change your car insurance from a learner driver policy.
